Sseko Sandals

When I read this story on The Pioneeer Woman I knew  had to do some research to see if these nifty sandals were available in Australia.

Alas, when searching their website I discovered that they aren't available here but for $16.95US I could have 2 pairs posted here!  Yippee - what a bargain!

They arrived yesterday and I love them.  I bought one pair for me and one for Emma.  We can share the 4 sets of straps - aqua, black, grey and pink/orange/yellow sorbet.

They are Sseko Sandals and apart from being very attractive shoes, they also have an amazing story behind them.

Sseko Designs is a sandal company based in Uganda. They make beautiful leather sandals with interchangeable fabric straps that can be styled in hundreds of ways.

Sseko began as a way to generate income for high potential, talented young women to continue on to university. Sseko has graduated three classes of women. Every woman who has graduated from Sseko is currently pursuing her college degree.

In addition to their university-bound team, Sseko also employs a full-time team of women from all walks of life. By creating an environment of dignity, honor, creativity and dedication, Sseko Designs provides the opportunity for women in East Africa to end the cycle of poverty and create a more equitable society.
We believe that every woman has a dream. When she is given the opportunity to pursue those dreams, we are collectively walking towards a brighter and more just and beautiful world.

We believe that our stuff has a story and that every dollar you spend is a vote for the way you think the world should work.

Every Sseko has a story.

Blog Book No. 4!

This is my 5th year of blogging! Each year I have my blog printed into a book as a permanent reminder of what's happened during the year both on the farm and within our family lives. A few weeks ago my 4th blog book arrived in the mail. Go to Blog 2 Print if you want to do the same with your blog - I can guarantee the quality is high, the cost is reasonable and you only have to wait a couple of weeks to receive it.

The Blogging World Rocks!!!

Two months ago a lovely lady called Cheryl left a comment on my post about Fiestaware letting me know that she had a collection of scarlet Fiestaware and was willing to sell it to me. She was moving back to the USA after a few years living in Melbourne and didn't want to pack it up when she could just re-buy some when she arrived back in the USA.

Of course I jumped at the opportunity because Fiestaware is not available in Australia and it costs an absolute fortune to have it freighted here.

I met Cheryl in Melbourne over the weekend when we were there to watch the Moomba Masters Water Ski Tournament. The Fiestaware is in perfect condition and includes an 8 piece place setting plus 4 extra dinner plates, a pitcher, 2 platters, 3 serving bowls and a butter keeper. I'm thrilled to bits and we used it last night for Emma's birthday dinner!

Blog Books

A few weeks ago I received my blog books from Blog2Print. I'm really happy the way they both turned out and their high quality of paper and printing. I started writing "The Farmers Wife" in September 2008 so I had the books printed in years. I'll get 2010 printed early next year as a permanent record of our life on the farm. My sister Lisa had her blog printed as well - you can look at hers here.
